Header Notes
Include the following headers in your articles to help manage the content.
RSS Monitoring
The "Recent Changes" and "New Pages" Special Pages provide RSS feeds for monitoring the latest WikiFirstEditions activity. This is a great way to receive alerts when a change is made to WikiFirstEditions. Stay on top of the coin collectors by getting RSS feeds:
- Select the "Spcial pages" link, then "Recent changes" or "New pages".
- Select the "RSS" link in the left hand column.
- Copy and paste the RSS URL to your favorite RSS reader.
Deleting Pages
Pages are deleted by administrators. If the value of some content is questionable, then it is put up for debate among administrators. Following are some guidelines for deleting pages:
- Article with no meaningful content.
- Test pages (e.g., "Can I really create a page here?").
- Pure vandalism, including redirects created during cleanup of page move vandalism.
- Banned user. Pages created by banned users while they were banned.
- Housekeeping. Non-controversial maintenance tasks such as temporarily deleting a page to merge page histories, or performing a non-controversial page move like reversing a redirect.
- Any page for which deletion is requested by the original author in good faith, provided the page's only substantial content was added by its author. If the author blanks the page, this can be taken as a deletion request.
- Pages that serve no purpose but to disparage their subject or some other entity (e.g., "John Q. Doe is an imbecile").
- Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote a company, product, group, service, or person.
- Blatant copyright infringement.
Templates
Templates are used to duplicate the same content across more than one page. You can change a template in one place and it will immediately propagate to the pages that use it. Templates often look like text boxes with a different background color from that of normal text. They are defined in pages with "Template" namespace in front of the name. To learn more about creating templates, refer to the WikiMedia template page
Uploading Images
Use the Special:Upload page to upload images and note that most images you might find on the Internet are copyrighted and not appropriate for uploading to WikiFirstEditions. If you did not create the image or are unable or unwilling to verify its copyright status, do not upload the image. As with copy, you retain the copyright for images you upload but agree to license it to WikiFirstEditions in perpetuity at no charge.
Categories
Categorize your articles by adding the "Category:" tag at the bottom of your articles. Create subcategories by categorizing categories. In this way, you can group articles to taste. The "Main Categories" link, provided in the left-hand column, represents the broadest categories available.
Help Section
The Help Page is the starting point for collaboration on Help Topics. Many "Project Pages" may be protecting by administrators to prevent editing but use the Help pages are available to everyone for collaboratively documenting any and all Help-related topics.
